The Beginning: According to the decision by Synod Pastoral 4 in 1979 Rev.Lalthanga (Pensioner) was allotted the job Chaplain at The Presbyterian Hospital for 3 years (1980-1982). He worked as full time Chaplain since then. From this time onwards the Pastoral committee started allotting the Job among Pastors in service at a regular interval.
Chaplaincy Committee: The Chaplaincy Committee comprises of Chaplain Sr.(Chairman) The other chaplain is the Ex-0fficio member the other members are, Hospital Director, Medical Superintendent, Nursing Superintendent, Principal Nursing School, 3 Doctors, Hostel Representatives, Pastor i/c Durtlang Branch.
Objectives : The hospital Chaplains take care of the mental and spiritual wellbeing of the Hospital Patients and the staffs working in the Hospital.
Duties :
Visiting the patients: This is the main duty of the Chaplains. They have a chat with each patient and do counseling for those who need so. The pray for the Patients for their wellbeing. This wards visits is done daily.
Last Rituals: Every patients do not go back home alive. For those who spend their last days in the Hospital are attended upon not only by the doctors but also by the Chaplains. The send them off with prayer and comfort the relatives
Chapel Services: Chapel Services comes under the Chaplaincy Unit. We do have regular chapel services on Monday mornings, Wednesday nights, Saturday nights, Sunday Mornings and Sunday School are all conducted by the Chaplaincy Unit.
Workers Retreat: Every year The Chaplaincy Unit organizes retreat for the Workers, New Nursing Students and The Covenant year Nurses.
