Derhken Tlang, is the name of the hill on which the Hospital is now standing. The hill used to be covered with Marigold (Derhken) flower, hence the name. This hill was used as a gazing ground by the villagers and offers a very magnificent view of the surrounding country side and was a favorite place for everyone.
The Chief of the Durtlang Village Pu M.Suaka a visionary and a Devout Christian aware of the benefit a Hospital would bring not only to the village, but to the whole of Mizoram had willingly sacrificed the entire hill to the missionaries to construct the Hospital. The Hospital is therefore extremely grateful to him and still remembers his great gift and sacrifice, and will always be indebted to him.
"I have been one of the foremost man to associate with the Missionaries
who have
come to these hills and I have known them to be of great help to the community
in every respect"
-M. Suaka
