MNGO

MNGO Scheme

The  Department of Family Welfare in the Ninth Five Year Plan (1997-2002) introduced the mother NGO scheme under the Reproductive and Child Health Programme.Under this scheme, the Dept. of FM identified and sanctioned grants to selected NGO's called Mother NGO(MNGO) in allocated District/s.These MNGOs, in turn issued grants to smaller NGOs called Field NGOs (FNGO), in the allocated District/s. The grants were to be used for promoting the goals/objectives as outlined in the Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) Programme of The Govt. of India.

The MNGO are expected to move from exclusive awareness to actual delivery to RCH services. The NGO is expected to complement and supplement the Government  held infrastructures and not substitute it. This is possible by involving NGOs in delivery of RCH services, in areas which are under-served or un-served

The Key service delivery areas under the MNGO Scheme are:

  • Maternal and Child Health

  • Family Planning

  • Adolescence Reproductive Health

  • Prevention and Management of Reproductive Tract infection

The role of the MNGO include the following functions:

  • Identification of un-served and under-served areas

  • Release of advertisement, identification and selection of FNGOs

  • Impart project orientation to FNGOs

  • Technical support to FNGO for inductiuon and in-service training of project staff

Goal:

The goal will be the overall improvement of health seeking behavior in Reproductive and child Health in selected un/under-served areas of Aizawl District

The Presbyterian Hospital has been selected as the Mother NGO for the District of Aizawl

The key person involved in this MNGO scheme is:

  • Dr.Vanlalchama
