Community Health

Community Health

"Prevention is better than cure" We all know this saying, but few do follow it more so in villages and in remote places. This may be due to ignorance but may also be due to sheer carelessness. A tertiary  Hospital in a City cannot provide this education to the people living in remote villages, but for this community Department, this is made possible by giving health talks in their own villages and providing them with health care at their doorstep.

The community department in the Hospital is not a big department, however with zeal and dedication the contribution of this department is uncountable. Since 1963 four dispensaries in rural areas have been maintained by Miss G.M Evans. later three other rural Health centers were again maintained at (1) Khawhai (2) Khawzawl  and (3) Khawdungsei. These Rural Health centers have long been closed since 1984, however the service has been continued through Mobile Clinics

Till date the Department visit different remote villages through difficult terrain providing health care and health education on personal hygiene, maternal and child health, and giving vaccination against preventable diseases. Health camps have also been organized in different villages where the hospital doctors treat patients in their own villages free of cost
